Zebras are black with white stripes (not the other way around). But, if you shaved a zebra, you would find it had totally black skin underneath all the hair. The foals are born with brown stripes that will turn black as it matures. The most interesting fact is that their striped pattern is as unique to them as our fingerprints are to us -- no two zebra patterns are ever the same.
